We recently shared some ideas about how to do skin cycling. When fall and winter come around, we can add stronger active ingredients like Retinol to accelerate cell turnover, repair damage, and rejuvenate the skin’s appearance. Here’s how your evening skin cycling routine might be adjusted to take advantage of these skin savers.
You might know that retinol can temporarily increase photosensitivity, so it must be used with care during summer when the sun’s rays are brightest... but make no mistake: The sun still exists in the winter, so be sure you only use retinol products in conjunction with reliable SPF.
Nights 1, 3, 5
Use Good Night Dream Cream, which combines resurfacing glycolic and salicylic acids with gentle retinol. Its hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, and silk amino acids form a richly hydrating virtual “sleeping mask” that helps minimize the appearance of fine lines, acnes scars, wrinkles, and age spots overnight. Apply over hyaluronic acid-rich Glow Serum, which adds a plumping dose of moisture skin craves in the cold, dry months.
Apply Hydrating Silk Lotion over Ret-E-Night Resurfacing Serum. The concentrated retinol-containing oil conditions the skin and supports collagen and elastin production for a soft, supple, more resilient appearance. It’s enhanced with rich oils, including argan, castor, and vitamin E, plus CoEnzyme Q10. Meanwhile, Hydrating Silk combines rich jojoba, cocoa butter, and vitamin E with beautiful botanicals to revitalize sluggish skin and form a light protective barrier.
Start your evening with a Honey Almond Oatmeal Scrub mask: Before shower, apply generously to face and neck and allow steam to activate for a few minutes. Use gentle circles to massage into skin, then rinse away. After shower, use Hydrating Silk Lotion over Glow Serum. (If you have excessively oily skin, may prefer Citrus Sorbet Oil-Free Moisturizer.)
Pro Tip: Sometimes a skin care routine feels like too much work right before bed. (Once the night creeps in, we often like to go straight from a cozy couch to a cozy bed without too much getting in the way...). One advantage of the shorter days is that nighttime products like retinol can be applied earlier. This time of year, when we get home, the first thing we do is kick off our shoes and change into comfy clothes (and take off our bras, if we’re being honest) and start our routine right then.
